Beware of Cats

With the Holiday season right around the corner, I’d like to take a moment to warn my canine followers about a real threat: Cats!  Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, Dogs visit a lot of homes of relatives and friends to spread Holiday cheer.  But what many don’t realize is there is a hidden danger in these homes.  Lurking behind potted plants, hiding behind curtains, and balanced above heads on curio cabinets are Cats ready to pounce on unsuspecting Dogs without warning.  And yes, they are trying to kill you!

Don’t believe me?  A study by the University of Edinburgh and the Bronx Zoo shows that Cats suffer from dominance, impulsiveness and neuroticism.  The same personality traits in Lions and other Wild Cats.  You only need to watch one episode of Nature on PBS to realize that Lions are not the friendliest of creatures to fellow animals.  So be prepared, Cats are not your friends, but rather are harboring deep animosity towards you.

The premise of this study holds true in the relationship Lemmy had with our Kitty Cousin, Misty.  Oh sure everyone still laughs about the Thanksgiving when Lemmy got his head stuck in a room divider.  “Silly puppy for chasing the Cat, that will teach you,” they said.  But what they didn’t realize is Misty purposely lured Lemmy there hoping to bring about his demise.  Or how about the Easter where Grandma proclaimed, “Oh look Misty is making a face at Lemmy,” only to be followed by Misty’s Lioness roar and an outstretched claw to Lemmy’s unsuspecting nose.

I could go on with other tales of terror.  But my goal here is not to revisit past assaults nor to scare my readers, but instead to warn Dogs that come this Holiday season keep vigilant when visiting the homes of Cats.  Cats are crazy, and they will kill you if given the opportunity.  So please keep a respectful distance, especially if they’ve been indulging in spiked eggnog and catnip.  That only exacerbates their feelings of dominance, impulsiveness and neuroticism!
