Dire Wolf’s Growth Spurt

Slowly but surely my little brother is becoming a full-grown Dire Wolf!  For those of you who may be new to Living with a Golden, when Asa was a puppy he predicted that someday he would grow up to be a fierce Dire Wolf, last seen in prehistoric times and on HBO.  I just laughed and petted my goofy little brother on the head.  Who was I to ruin a puppy’s dream?  As time went on and Asa’s growth spurts became less frequent, he started to lose faith.  But then a trip to buy lobsters changed all that when Asa learned about molting.  According to Asa lobsters and Dire Wolves have a lot in common because they both shed.  As Asa theorized, similar to how lobsters grow by shedding their shells, Dire Wolves grow by shedding their fur.  Once again I just petted him on the head, and agreed with him.  Oh sure he somehow managed to outgrow his dog collars a few months later, but that was purely a fluke.  Flash forward to yesterday, and Asa’s prophecy may be coming true!

Would you believe on exactly a year to the day Asa outgrew his collar again?  I wouldn’t believe it myself, if I didn’t have confirmation on my memories news feed.  Exactly one year ago on January 18, 2017 I wrote “Dire Wolf Prophecy Fulfilled,” where I was astonished about the fact Asa outgrew his collars and his are no longer interchangeable with mine.  Then yesterday, exactly one year later, Dad nonchalantly told Mom that he had to make Asa’s collar bigger again.  I quickly grabbed our two collars for comparison.  Sure enough Asa’s dog collar is now a full inch longer than mine!  This can only mean one thing, Asa has a yearly growth spurt and I don’t!  Perhaps he really is a Dire Wolf?

Now before you go getting all excited that Dire Wolves are no longer extinct, don’t hold your breath.  By my calculations, Asa has a growth spurt once a year.  So at this rate it will be a rather long time before he reaches his full potential.  Luckily though for Asa, he’s a patient little soul, and can wait for his destiny to be fulfilled.

Oh quit being so dramatic. You’re not a full-grown Dire Wolf…yet.

Seriously, Asa’s not that much bigger than me. I could be a Dire Wolf too if I wanted!

Collars don’t lie. Proof of Asa’s growth spurt.
