Keeping it Positive while in the Negative

Mother Nature, I don’t like your negative attitude.  Well actually it is your negative wind chills I don’t like.  Anyways, you can’t bring me down!  I’ve decided to stay positive about the recent bone chilling temperatures and the foot of snow on the way tomorrow.  In short, I’m keeping it positive while in the negative!

There were a lot of good reasons to enjoy this past weekend’s arctic blast in Maine.  For example, it gave me the opportunity to try new yoga moves on the brief trips outside to do my business.  To keep my paws from freezing, I slowly tried to lift my back left paw, followed by my front right paw at the same time, all while going to the bathroom.  Now that’s concentration!  One slip and it could have been disastrous, and resulted in a bath.  Too bad this was the one time Mom didn’t have her camera with her to capture my athletic prowess, but Asa will vouch for me that I did it!

Another benefit was it gave us more time together cuddling in front of the TV.  If the temperatures were seasonal, no doubt we would have spent the weekend running around at a breakneck pace trying to fit in everything we didn’t accomplish during the week.  But is that really the best use of our family time?  Ok, so Dad picked a lousy movie.  It had two stars Dad…two.  Lesson learned.  I’ll be sure to pick the next one!  But overall it was nice spending a lazy day curled up with him relaxing, especially since work these past couple of weeks have been crazy to say the least.  Also this cold snap inspired Mom to bake.  Thus filling the house with the mouth watering smell of gingerbread!  Of which I may or may not have licked the slice left on the table.  What the Humans don’t know, won’t hurt them, right?

As for the impending snowstorm for tomorrow, bring it on!  We barely got any snow all winter, with the exception of that one weekend in February when Mother Nature decided to give us an entire month’s worth in a few days.  To be honest it was way too much all at once to truly appreciate it.  So it will be fun to play in the snow again, because I really do miss it in July.  Besides, I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not.  But the snow that’s out there is looking a bit grimy and worse for wear.  A fresh foot of snow will clean that all up, and save Asa from accidentally making snow angels in yellow snow like he did the other day.  That little guy sure loves making snow angels.  Oh and speaking of playing, Dad was really disappointed that he missed the February blizzard, but now he can join Mom in playing that shovel game in the March nor’easter!  Won’t that be fun?

Also this storm will put all those annoying political memes on your social media feeds on the back burner.  Instead your timeline will be filled with clever thoughts on winter in spring.  I don’t know about you, but I’m also looking forward to the news reporters standing outside getting blasted in the face with snow trying to stand firm against the wind, all while ironically stating to stay indoors because it is bad outside.  That always makes me bark out loud, and never gets old to watch.  Humans really could learn a lot from dogs.  You don’t see us standing outside in that weather barking the obvious!

In summary, so what if a year ago we were doing beach reviews on this date.  It’s nice to slow things down a bit and spend time with family on these rare subfreezing  snowy days in March.  Spring will come soon enough, and with it all sorts of activities to fill our time.  Mother Nature, I guess I owe you another thank you!  This time for helping me to slow down and appreciate the simple joys of winter.

Winter days in March are a good time to recharge my battery and get ready for the fast pace days of spring.
