Mousam River Wildlife Sanctuary – Kennebunk, ME

The Mousam River Wildlife Sanctuary in Kennebunk, Maine is a serene location for dog friendly hiking. Located in the center of Kennebunk, just minutes away from the busy downtown, is this tranquil trail. Owned by the Kennebunk Land Trust, this 38-acre preserve has over 2,400 feet of frontage along the Mousam River, and offers two scenic overlooks of the broad estuary where the Mousam River becomes tidal. As with the Kennebunk Plains, this is an ideal location for bird watching. The .75 mile trail is at times steep and requires moderate hiking, but does level out for easier walking with your dog.

The Trailhead can be found just before the treatment plant on Water street. There is a small parking lot approximately 50 yards before the Trailhead. Dogs are allowed off leash and under voice control, but please beware there is steep terrain so it may be better to leash your dogs if they tend to run off trail. Also, as always please be respectful of the wildlife.
