South Berwick Town Forest – ME

Looking for a tranquil hike away from the usual tourist areas?  Located just minutes away from the more popular Vaughan Woods Memorial State Park, the South Berwick Town Forest is a no-frills dog friendly hiking trail perfect for a quiet nature walk with your canine best friend.  Consisting of approximately 88 acres, the Town Forest in South Berwick, Maine, offers several trail options through dense forest and along the Great Works River.  The main trail is easy hiking, and was recently mowed the day we visited.  The other trails, although marked, can be a bit tricky to follow so be sure to look for the red markers.

There are no rules posted regarding dogs.  However, nothing indicates they are not allowed.  We recommend keeping your dogs leashed because on the day we visited we saw a lot of Beavers along the river trail.  And as always, please pick up after your dog.  To access the Trailhead, drive towards the farm, and bear right over the narrow dirt road in the field.  At the end you will find a small dirt parking lot and a sign with the trail map.  Although the South Berwick Town Forest does not have any extraordinary scenic views or historic sites to explore, it makes for the perfect spot for a peaceful nature walk with your dog.
