Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine has complicated rules about when dogs can and cannot use the beach:
October 1 through March 31: dogs are allowed off leash under voice control, EXCEPT between the hours of 12 Noon to 2:00 PM when dogs must be on leash.
April 1 to June 14: dogs are allowed off leash under voice control, but only from 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM. Dogs must be leashed at all other times, and NO dogs are allowed on the west end of the beach where the piping plovers are nesting. This includes the area of Norwood Avenue and continues westerly to the Batson River.
June 15 through September 30: dogs are NOT allowed June 15 through September 30 between the hours of 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Also during the Summer, dogs are not allowed at the west end of the beach or in any roped off areas where the piping plover may be nesting. From June 15 through September 30, dogs are allowed overnight from 6:00 PM through 6:00 AM and 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM on leash. From 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM, dogs may be off leash under voice control in the designated dog area away from the nesting birds.
Complicated, yes. But Goose Rocks Beach is worth visiting during the off season! This Kennebunkport beach offers approximately three miles of wide sandy beach, with beautiful views of Timber Island and Eastern Goose Rocks. Located on Kings Highway, off Route 9, there is on street parking. Parking permits are required from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and are available at the Kennebunkport Police Department, Town Hall, and Goose Rocks General Store. Please note that Kennebunk parking permits are not accepted in Kennebunkport.
