Unforeseen Diet Repercussion

First off I want to stress that we’re ok.  However, our dishwasher did catch on fire!  Thank goodness rather than run it at night when we usually do, Mom happened to turned it on in the afternoon so was sitting nearby when smoke and sparks started coming out of it.  That’s a relief, because although I know where we keep the fire extinguisher, they are rather hard to use without thumbs!  Also I’m guessing Asa’s suggestion of peeing on it would have ended badly.  As for what caused the fire, there’s only one obvious answer – My diet!

You see for months now ever since I was told by Dr. Doug that I needed to lose a few pounds, Mom and Dad have prevented me from pre-rinsing the dishes with a few tasty licks.  So clearly all that food built up and burst into flames!  That’ll teach them not to put me on a diet again and endanger our family’s safety!

Now while Mom mourns the loss of our dishwasher, Dad is rather happy.  For those of you who may be new to this blog, Dad has a long tradition of buying Mom kitchen appliances as gifts.  There was the year he waited months until Christmas to replace our leaking refrigerator.  Then last year for her birthday he generously gave her a new stove after he accidentally broke the glass cooking surface on the old one.  Even for Mother’s Day he gave Mom a toaster!  Oh and the microwave was a gift a few years before I joined the family.  So that just leaves the dishwasher and coffee maker to be replaced.  And everyone knows not to mess with Dad’s coffee maker!  So now he knows the perfect gift to give Mom for her birthday!

Too bad Mom’s birthday isn’t until November.  So while she awaits her gift of yet another appliance, I have graciously offered to sacrifice my diet and lick all the dirty dishes clean so Mom won’t have to wash them by hand.  No need to thank me Mom.  I do it because I love you!

Moral of the story: Our dishwasher fire could have been avoided if you just let me pre-lick the dishes!
