In this busy world, we often don’t stop to take the time to tell someone what they really mean to us, share a memory of them that makes us smile, or just simply reach out to let them know they are on our minds. May we suggest slowing down, and taking the time this Christmas to write a letter to a loved one?
It doesn’t need to be on fancy paper, or written in the perfect card. It just needs to come from the heart. Oh sure emails and texts are quicker. But there’s just something special about receiving a handwritten note in the mail, especially for older family members who aren’t too keen on technology, and young friends who are too connected and need to unplug.
It can be just a short note in a card, telling them you’re thinking of them. Or perhaps a longer letter letting them know how much you care. Sure it can be said in a phone call or over Zoom, but there’s just something about seeing it in writing that warms the heart, especially this year when not everyone can be with their loved ones.
All it costs is the price of a stamp, and your time. And best part is, it is a gift that doesn’t have a deadline, nor does it need to be delivered by December 25th. It also doesn’t even need to stop once the Holidays are over! Chuck Billy and I write our notes to cherished loved ones throughout the year. Sometimes we include printed photos of our adventures. Other times we’ll even make a card using stuff found around the house. Some notes are brief, in others we share “news” of what we’re up to these days. All are written with love.
