A Rare February Treat

Today is one of those rare days in winter where Mother Nature gives us hope that spring is on the way.  After a bone chilling January, Mother Nature is giving us beach weather in February!  Ok, so there’s still snow on the beach, and Mom is wearing boots instead of flip flops.  But by Maine standards this is as good as it gets!  They are predicting temperatures today in the 60s, and if the thick fog burns off it could possibly be near 70 degrees in some parts of Maine!  Yes, you read that right.  February in Maine with temperatures possibly near 70!  Now that’s a rare treat!

The meteorologists are predicting record warmth today, that may shatter the old records.  Speaking of May, today we’re getting temperatures not usually felt around here until May.  That means an approximately 30 degree increase in temperature from this morning’s 32 degrees to this afternoon’s highs in the 60s.  Take that Punxsutawney Phil, with your threat of six more weeks of winter!  We’re getting an early spring…at least for today.  Rumor has it that it will snow tomorrow evening, with highs barely above freezing in some areas.

Thank you Mother Nature for lifting our spirits on this wild roller coaster ride!  I have no doubt that you have a few more snow days planned for us in the weeks ahead.  However today is a day for celebrating that spring is on the way!  Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go soak in some of that warmth before we return to the reality of winter in Maine.

Blue skies smiling at me…nothing but blue skies, do I see!  (Well if the fog burns off, this photo is from Monday.)
