I have to be honest with you. If Mom had a tail, lately it would be droopy. Oh sure she’s happy going on adventures with us. But I can tell she’s been missing our Grandpa (her Dad) and Lemmy. None of us guessed a year ago when we played with Grandpa on Father’s Day that he’d be gone from us so soon. Also Lemmy trained Mom so well that during a recent thunderstorm Mom came running downstairs in the night to check on him, only to be reminded he wasn’t there. Lemmy was never a big fan of storms.
Anyways, the other day Mom and I were sitting in the yard watching Asa rolling like an idiot in the grass. When all of a sudden I got the irresistible urge to start digging. I never dig! I outgrew that habit years ago. Yet there I was digging in the backyard by Mom’s feet. More amazing was Mom didn’t yell at me. Instead she got down on her knees and started hugging me while clutching something in her hand. Adding to my confusion, she kept thanking me!
Once Mom calmed down, I realized I dug up a small heart shaped rock. Then it all made sense! Grandpa must have put that heart shaped rock there for Mom, and it was Lemmy who gave me that irresistible urge to dig it up! Lemmy never could resist an opportunity to dig. They sent Mom a lovely sign that they are still with us. Just in time too. Later on this week Mom will be attending a memorial service to remember the lives of the residents who passed away this past year in the hospice program that cared for Grandpa during his final week. Mom wasn’t sure she could be brave for that service. But now armed with that small heart shaped rock in her pocket, she can. Thank you Grandpa and Lemmy for continuing to watch over us! Please keep sending us those signs of love!
