We would be remiss if on Asa’s World Tour of Maine we didn’t stop at the house of another celebrity who calls this state home. A celebrity who has inspired countless rock stars with his books and movies, namely Stephen King! Author of more than 60 books, hundreds of short stories, and known as the “King of Horror,” Stephen King was born in Portland, raised in Durham, and today owns a beautiful Victorian house in Bangor, Maine.
Asa: WOW! You arranged a meeting with me and Stephen King? Chuck Billy, you’re the BEST tour manager!
Chuck Billy: Yes…the best…don’t you forget that! Now let’s just sit and pose by the gate while the visitors who have traveled from across the country and overseas to see this house, take our photo.
Asa: Is it me, or have we been sitting here posing for a while?
Chuck Billy: Stephen King is a very busy person….
Asa: Understandable! I promise not to take too much of his time. Maybe he’ll let me collaborate on a song for a movie, like he did with the Ramones? Let’s go over to the main entrance.
Chuck Billy: Ummm, there’s something I need to tell you…
Asa: Well that’s not very friendly. You did tell Stephen we were coming today, right?
Chuck Billy: Well you see here’s the thing. According to the Google search I did to find the address, Stephen lives primarily in Florida now. But there is talk of turning this house into a museum…someday!
Asa: You mean we traveled all this way, and we’re not even going to meet Maine’s most famous resident?
Chuck Billy: Well no. But I have a plan!
Chuck Billy: Maybe this Frog who is the groundskeeper can slip us in over the fence!
Asa: I don’t want to leap to any conclusions, but maybe if I tell a few puns, I can convince the frog we’ll have a hopping good time that’s un-frog-getable!
