After spending months at home staring at the same old walls, now is your chance to add new artwork while supporting Mainely Mutts Animal Rescue! The New Hampshire Art Association (NHAA) is hosting an online silent auction of 80 pieces from Ann Tolson, with proceeds to benefit the NHAA and Mainely Mutts Animal Rescue.
Ann Tolson was a valued member of the NH Art Association and painted almost every day into her 98th year, leaving behind an impressive body of work when she passed away in 2019. She took classes at Kings College in Newcastle, England, and later at the Silvermine School for the Arts in Connecticut. Inspired by artists Alex Katz and Will Barnet, her unique style is both contemporary and rooted in history, with creative use of strong color. Some have compared her work to artist David Hockney.
80 pieces of her work have been selected to be auctioned and are on display online and at the New Hampshire Art Association’s Robert Lincoln Gallery (136 State Street, Portsmouth, NH). When approached about this online auction, Tolson’s daughter Penelope Peterson explained, “I know my mom would want this. She loved the Art Association and loved rescuing dogs.”
Bidding for the auction ends tomorrow, Friday, June 26, 2020 at 5:00 PM EST. All purchased art must be picked up at the NHAA gallery by 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2020. If shipping is required there will be an additional charge and buyer must contact the gallery to make arrangements.
