Let’s face it. I’m not getting any younger. So if I’m going to become a famous rock star, I need to start taking this more serious. But where to begin? I did what Chuck Billy would do – research! I’ve been watching documentaries and taking notes.
First off I watched a documentary on the amazing career of record producer, Clive Davis. He shaped the careers everyone from Whitney Houston to Barry Manilow to Aerosmith to Alicia Keys! He even had the nerve to tell Bruce Springsteen to re-record his first album because their were no hits on it! This man knows what a song needs to make it a hit. Problem is I don’t know how to reach him. At 89 years old, Clive is still very busy, and is a hard man for an up and coming dog rock star to reach.
Speaking of Bruce Springsteen, next I watched a documentary on the groundbreaking Boston radio station WBCN. Although Bruce was well known in New Jersey, he gives credit to the DJs at WBCN for making him a star across the country. They believed in him, and other not so well known artists, and played their music when other stations were ignoring them. Although it wasn’t WBCN, even Jon Bon Jovi credits a radio station for giving him his big start. As Jon explained in countless interviews, he knew the loneliest guy in the business is the DJ. So he boldly walked into a studio one day and handed a DJ a demo tape, and the rest is history! Problem is, “history” is the key word here. After 40 years, WBCN went off the air, and I’m not sure where I could even find a radio station DJ. Mom and Dad stream their music!
Not to be deterred, I then watched the series “Icon: Music Through the Lens.” There I learned the importance of having a good photographer to capture my image. They explained the important work photographers do documenting the lives of rock stars from getting the perfect album cover to capturing once in a lifetime moments on stage. Well that I can do! I already have my very own photographer, Mom! Now to figure out what image I want to portray to the world? So last weekend I got to work trying different poses…
Here I am listening to my latest song…
Or how about this one, me chillin’ with my tunes…
This is me hanging out with a celebrity friend, Lady, from “Lady and the Tramp.” People love celebrity couples!
Perhaps I should try looking more aloof?
Or maybe the celebrity endorsement takes away the focus on me? Here I am thinking of a new song…
