Asa here. While Chuck Billy continues his week long celebration of his birthday, I thought I’d give him a break and write today’s blog post for him. But before you read it, you have to promise not to reveal his birthday surprise that I bought him, even if you guess what it is from my hints! Back in November when it was my birthday, my grandmother gave me a gift card to Petco to purchase anything I want! Mom and Dad made me wait though, because I got a lot toys for my birthday and with Christmas right around the corner, they thought I had plenty to keep me busy. However after coming down with a case of cabin fever, they finally let me go on a shopping spree! Mom and Dad gave me three rules 1. If I bite it, I buy it. 2. I have to limit my purchases to the amount of the gift card. 3. While there I have to buy a gift for Chuck Billy. Challenge Accepted!
Now despite my young age, I knew I had to choose wisely, and not just grab the first thing I saw. It’s not every day that your grandmother gives you a gift card! But oh so many colorful temptations!
Before making any decisions I carefully inspected each and every toy in their colorful displays.
As a seasoned shopper, I also know it’s good to look behind things because sometimes dogs hide the good stuff they want to buy but can’t at the moment.
Then that’s when I saw it! The toy I couldn’t live without! A squeaky alligator! Sorry the picture is blurry, but I was so excited I couldn’t stand still to pose for Mom.
I told Dad the price, and he deducted that from my total. Oh boy, I still had money left to spend! Being a penny wise shopper, I next turned my attention to the clearance rack. There I was drawn to a tiny Santa doll that crinkled in the most delightful way!
That’s when Mom reminded me I still needed to buy Chuck Billy a gift. After all, he did give me my new best friend Mr. Squeaky Turkey for my birthday. But what to get him? I asked a ferret, living at the store, what he recommended. However, he was no help. Mr. Ferret just went on a rant about how it should be dogs who are caged while he runs free in the store. He seemed very adamant on the subject, so I politely agreed and kept on shopping.
Much to my surprise my Imaginary Friend was at Petco too! He suggested I should get Chuck Billy a turtle. But I wasn’t too keen on that idea. I can imagine Chuck Billy getting jealous of a pet that can go swimming any time he wants.
That’s when I saw them! Birds! I heard that listening to birds was soothing, so perhaps Chuck Billy wouldn’t be barking all the time. Then again, I don’t want to risk encouraging him to bark more. After happily watching the birds for a moment, I continued in my quest for the perfect gift.
I asked myself, what does Chuck Billy like to do the most? EAT! That’s it I’ll get him a new bowl! But none seemed big enough for his appetite.
A friendly Husky I met while shopping recommended an igloo. A plausibility, since Chuck Billy does gets cranky in the winter if I take my time to do my business and keep him waiting outside too long. But again, it just didn’t wow me.
That’s when I saw it! The perfect gift! It’s out of this world! But I can’t tell you what it is, because Chuck Billy’s reading this over my shoulder and his party isn’t until this weekend. No peeking allowed! Chuck Billy will just have to wait and not abduct it before the party! Realizing I still had money on my gift card, I grabbed one more toy for me, a blueberry squeaky ball. Then I headed to the register to pay, wagging my tail on a shopping high!
Thank you Babci and Pepere for my awesome birthday presents! And Chuck Billy, you’ll get your unidentified gift this weekend.
