With the Twelve Days of Christmas coming to a close yesterday, the Holiday season has officially ended. I must say though, Asa was in rare form with blatantly breaking the rules this year at our grandparents’ homes. Yes, I can understand he was overly excited having been apart from them the year before. However, even I was taken aback by his complete disregard for Mom and Dad’s rules. Yet as only our Asa can, he is summing up the Holidays with his parody of the iconic Frank Sinatra song, “My Way,” as he relishes the memory of what was, but now returns to being a good boy.
And now, the Holidays are done
And so is breaking all of Dad’s rules
My friend, I’ll bark it clear
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
Grandma gave me full permission
I cherished each and every exemption
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Treats, I’ve had a few
But then again, too many to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through to get attention
I planned each goofy grin
Each merry wag, as I played keep away
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I’m sure Mom knew
When I ate more, more than I should chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up, not spit it out
I enjoyed it all, and I stood tall, and did it my way
I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and squeaked
I’ve had new toys, my share of stuffies
And now, as squeakers die
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, wearing a cute hat
Oh, yes, oh, yes, it’s me, I did it my way
For what is a dog, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To break the rules, he truly feels
Are not the rules of one with paws
The photos show
My Golden glow
And did it my way
Yes, it was my way!
