Born Champions

The other day my younger sibling, Duke, pondered why Goldens never win the National Dog Show.  So please let me explain our little secret.  You see, Goldens are naturally born champions!  What with our fluffy good looks, charismatic personalities, and athletic prowess, we cannot help but win over the hearts of judges everywhere.  But how fair is that for other dogs?  That is why we Goldens have an unwritten rule that when it comes to the National Dog Show, Westminster…any big championship really…we let other dogs take the spotlight.  The same holds true for why Golden Retrievers are the third most popular dog breed in the United States, and eighth most popular in the United Kingdom.  We simply want to give other dogs a chance.  Goldens are naturally humble that way.

[Editor’s Note: Our apologies to Charlie the Skye Terrier who won the 2015 National Dog Show.  Charlie truly is a champion!  Chuck Billy is a sore loser, so we told him that there’s an unwritten rule about Goldens to soften his disappointment.  Please don’t tell him our secret, it makes living with Chuck Billy easier!]
