Careless Kibble: A Time Change Song

Well once again Daylight Saving Time has come to an end, leaving dogs across the country in a state of confusion. We may have gained an hour by turning the clocks back, but our meals are now served late. Why do humans insist on changing dinnertime? Don’t they know that Golden Retrievers run on Golden Standard Time? Our tummies are never wrong! We know when meals should be served regardless of what the clock says.

So while I, Chuck Billy, sit waiting and whimpering by my empty bowl, Asa once again is making light of this serious situation. He is singing his 2023 parody to George Michael’s “Careless Whisper.” Except his version, entitled Careless Kibble, is far sadder than the original! And yes, instead of a saxophone solo, he continues to insist on using bagpipes.

Oh, oh, oh no…

I feel so unsure
As I wait by my bowl, it’s past five, I’m not secure
No one’s filled my dish, it’s a canine abyss
Don’t get why they’re unaware
That dinner time is missed

I’m never gonna eat again
Empty bowl ain’t got no kibble
Though it’s easy to pretend
They know I’m not a fool

Should’ve known better than to cheat a Golden
And waste an hour that’s been stolen
So I’m never gonna eat again
The time I used to, oh oh oh

Time can never mend
My empty stomach, it won’t comprehend
To my doggy brain
Changing time’s a pain
There’s no food in my dog bowl
Hunger takes its own toll

I’m never gonna eat again
Empty bowl ain’t got no kibble
Though it’s easy to pretend
They know I’m not a fool

Should’ve known better than to cheat a Golden (should’ve known better, yeah)
And waste an hour that’s been stolen
So I’m never gonna eat again
The time I used to, oh oh oh

Kibble is my true love

Tonight my stomach seems so loud
To change the time is not allowed
Maybe two meals is the better way?
We’d both be happy, and then we’d go out to play

We could both have a bowl together
We could just eat this meal forever
But now, a new idea from me…
A buffet

And I’m never gonna eat again
Empty bowl ain’t got no kibble
Though it’s easy to pretend
They know I’m not a fool

Should’ve known better than to cheat a Golden
And waste an hour that’s been stolen
So I’m never gonna eat again
The time I used to, oh, oh, oh

Now that time is gone
(Now that time is gone)
Now that time is gone
Was Daylight Saving so wrong, so wrong
That you couldn’t leave it alone?

Nice song Asa, but I think your bagpipe solo was a bit overly dramatic, and our breakfast is still late.
