Caught Up in the Frenzy

Today I dedicate my song parody to all those caught up in the shopping frenzy of the holidays. Set to the tune of REM’s “Losing My Religion,” I first penned it back in 2021, after a particularly overwhelming Cyber Monday. I reshare it today because I didn’t have time to write a new blog post. Due to obvious circumstances from the past few weeks, I’m behind on everything this year. So while I get back into the holiday swing of things, I thought I could use this cautionary reminder to look up, breathe, and not get caught up in the shopping mayhem. After all as the Grinch taught us, there’s a lot more to Christmas than gifts, coupon codes, and shipping deadlines!

“Oh No I’ve Bought Too Much, I Haven’t Bought Enough” (December 2021)

Oh! The ‘net is bigger
It’s bigger with gifts
These gifts aren’t for me
The lengths that I will scroll to
The glazing in my eyes
Oh no I’ve shopped too much
I clicked it all

That’s me in the checkout
That’s me with the full cart
Shopping for Christmas gifts
Trying a coupon code too
And I don’t know if I can use it
Oh no I’ve bought too much
I haven’t bought enough

I thought that’s free delivery
I thought that it was all on sale
I think I saw my credit card cry

Every clicking, of every waking hour
I’m choosing gift perfection
Trying to buy gifts for you
Like a rich, lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no I’ve shopped too much
I clicked it all

Consider this
Consider this “The Gift of the Century”
Consider this “THE gift”
Will bring Mom to her knees, great
But what if all these presents come
Arriving late
Now I’ve paid too much

I thought that’s free delivery
I thought that it was all on sale
I think I saw my credit card cry

But I just want to scream
That was just my scream

That’s me in the checkout
That’s me with the full cart
Shopping for Christmas gifts
Trying a coupon code too
And I don’t know if I can use it
Oh no I’ve bought too much
I haven’t bought enough

I thought that’s free delivery
I thought that it was all on sale
I think I saw my credit card cry

But I just want to scream
Buy, cry, buy, cry
That was just my scream
Just my scream
Just my scream, scream….

Sorry for this bit of holiday stress. I’m feeling much better now that I’ve sung my feelings.
