Chuck Billy, Always Watching Over Me

Hi Chuck Billy, today marks 9 months since you’ve crossed Rainbow Bridge. Yet during these past few weeks, I’ve felt your presence close to me. Thank you for sending those three rainbows in the week leading up to my surgery. I know you’re always watching over us, but Mom really needed those visual reminders that you and Angel Lemmy are never far away. It was very sweet of Lemmy to send that faint double rainbow. Although we’ve never been formally introduced, I know he’s been guiding me my whole life. I especially want to thank you that on that sunny, Wednesday morning, as our nightmare was unfolding, you found a way to send that small rainbow Mom spotted reflected on the driveway, as Dad loaded me into the car. Your message that no matter what happened, you’re there for me, gave Mom and Dad a sense of peace, as we faced so many unknowns that day.

Looking back, I’m sorry I misinterpreted that other sign you sent. I incorrectly thought that interstellar object zipping through space, spotted by NASA, was you in a hurry to attend the Exeter UFO Festival. When in reality, you were on a mission as part of my surgery. You always were a better planner than me, who could see the big picture. You knew that invasive fungal organism inside my nasal cavity was a threat. Therefore, you were heading here to apprehend it when the fungi popped out. No wonder despite all my waiting at the UFO festival, you never arrived. You were busy preparing for a bigger mission.

Even more proof you had thought this through was that you had the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, on standby to help. It wasn’t a coincidence they arrived in the area the day before my surgery, and were practicing over the animal hospital when that fungi was being removed. You even made sure they escorted me out of the area on my ride home, as evident in the photo Mom snapped as we drove away on Thursday. You really do think of everything! But you didn’t need their help. You always have things under control.

Speaking of control, I’m sorry the living room is in such a state of disarray with blankets and towels everywhere while my nasal cavity continues to drain. I know you disliked it when things were messy. I also know if you were here, you’d be sniffing at this mess and stomping your paws to let Mom know immediately when a blanket needed laundering, or my nose needed wiping. I’m healing as quickly as I can, and will get this room and our routine back in order as fast as possible. But I still have a ways to go with my healing. The internal medicine specialist said this could take a month or longer. I also apologize for dropping the ball on your blog these past couple of weeks. I’ll get back into the swing of things. I know there are many stories I still have to share! More importantly, I’m sorry I let you down by scaring Mom and Dad, and me. I know that Mom and Dad need me, and I will take better care of them for you. Chuck Billy, overall as we mark 9 months without you here, I just want to say thank you! You may be at Rainbow Bridge, but I know you’re always with me.

Love you, Angel Chuck Billy! Miss you, my brother! See you at the end of the trail, but thankfully I still have a ways to go.
