Chuck Billy’s Shopping Spree

‘Tis the season of giving, and I’m taking that message to heart.  Last January my grandparents gave me a gift card for my birthday.  However, I already have everything I need, a bacon scented squeaky ball and treats.  What more could a dog want?  Well apparently Asa needs stuff, especially since I may have accidentally shredded his squeaky toy last week.  Besides, his birthday is just around the corner!  So armed with my gift card, I headed to Petco to buy my little brother some presents.

Come on, the treats are this way!

As soon as I entered the store, I knew just what to get me…err I mean Asa.  So I headed straight to the treats section.  I carefully sniffed all my options.

Sometimes the best stuff is hidden in the back.

After choosing what I wanted, I knew I had one more gift to buy Asa.  So I headed over to the training section.  I wanted to get Asa a muzzle so he wouldn’t steal my bacon scented squeaky ball anymore.  But both Mom and Dad said no to that idea.

Ahhh, come on Mom! Asa wouldn’t have to wear the muzzle all the time. Just when we play fetch.

I suppose they are right. A muzzle would blow my gift card budget and I’d have to put the treats back.  So I walked around the store searching for the perfect gift for Asa.  What would make the goofy guy happy?  That’s when I saw it!  The perfect gift!  A skull sweater!  Asa loves his heavy metal music and dreams of being in a band someday!  But then again, do I want to encourage this?

Debating if I want to encourage Asa’s obsession with dressing up…

I decided to keep looking.  It’s best not to encourage his silly puppy dreams.  After all Asa will be turning 3 on Saturday.  Well that and I’d be embarrassed to be seen with him wearing it.  That’s when I rounded the corner and saw all the toys!

Look at ALL these toys!

I have to admit, with so many options it was a bit overwhelming!  Asa would want them ALL!  Limited by the amount of the gift card, minus the price of the treats, I carefully surveyed my options.  A stuffed animal?  A ball?  A squeaky?

Perhaps a stuffed animal to replace the one I shredded?

I promptly ignored Mom’s suggestion that I should buy Asa a new squeaky friend.  How will he ever get in touch with his inner wolf if he’s making friends with his prey?  Perhaps a new ball?

Wow, these toys are expensive.

Not wanting to blow my gift card budget on one toy, I checked out the clearance section.  But it was filled with Halloween costumes, and I definitely didn’t want to get Asa that!

These are good deals at 75% off, but nothing “wowed” me.

Moving on I rounded another corner, and found the perfect toy for Asa!  A stuffed reindeer that I could use to teach Asa to help me in my ongoing battle with the neighborhood deer!

What do you mean, “NO?” I don’t care if Santa’s watching!

But once again, my choice was dismissed.  Mom said something about it not being nice to purposely buy a stuffed animal to shred, and Dad reminded me that it was deer hunting season NOT reindeer season.  Fine, whatever.  That’s when I met Java and Seamus’ Mom, who helped me to choose the perfect gifts!  She is visiting from Germany, and was at the store to buy presents for her Labrador Retrievers.  I’d tell you what she helped me to pick out, but that would ruin the surprise for Asa.

Hidden in this photo are my gifts for Asa. That should keep him guessing for awhile!

Armed with my purchases, I headed to the checkout.  Excited that after months of waiting, I finally put MY birthday gift card to good use!

What do you mean I’m $6 over?! Thanks Dad for loaning me the extra cash.
