Chuck Billy and Asa have enriched our lives so much.  But there are so many animals waiting for their forever homes.  On Saturday, August 15, 2015, hundreds of shelters across the country are taking part in Clear the Shelters Day, a nationwide push to find homes for pets in need. Many organizations have agreed to cut the cost of adoption for the one-day event, organized in partnership with NBC Owned Television Stations and Telemundo Stations Group.

Many local shelters in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts are participating in Clear the Shelters Day with extended hours and special pricing, including the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, NHSPCA, Animal Refuge of Greater Portland, and MSPCA.  To find a participating shelter near you, click here.  For tips on adding a forever friend to your family, please visit NECN’s Clear the Shelters link.

Even if you are not looking to add a new pet to your family now, please remember many of these shelters rely on the kindness of volunteers.  Take a moment to find out how you can help, donate needed supplies, volunteer to work with the animals, and help bring a little hope to the life of a shelter pet.  You may even find a new friend in the process.
