Clipper City Rail Trail, Newburyport, MA

The Clipper City Rail Trail in Newburyport, Massachusetts, is a scenic dog friendly walk. This approximately 3 mile out and back trail begins at the MBTA commuter rail station and winds it’s way through an industrial area, abuts quaint neighborhoods, and eventually ends at the waterfront. From there you can follow the trail left to Cashman Park or right to enjoy the Harborwalk along the Merrimack River. Along the way there is public art, including some interactive sculptures for children, as well as historic markers describing the railway, including a whistle-stop campaign speech by Teddy Roosevelt in 1912.

Dogs are allowed on-leash. The trail is paved. Parking is available in downtown Newburyport, and there are many signs marking where you can access the trail.
