Research by the American Animal Hospital Association has shown that 60% of all animal hospital visits are emergency in nature and that 1 out of 4 more pet’s lives could be saved if just one first aid technique was delivered before veterinary care.
Knowing the basics of Pet First Aid and CPR are important for all pet owners. On Saturday, July 16, 2016, from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 PM, the New Hampshire SPCA will be hosting a CPR & First Aid for Pets Class. In April we took this class taught by April Begosh of Healthy Pets NH, and cannot stress enough how much we learned during that 5 hour class. April will provide information on basic emergency and first aid care for pets prior to veterinary care, including what to do if your pet is choking or not breathing, how to safely mobilize for transport an animal with a broken leg, to restraining and muzzling an injured pet. She also addresses Summer concerns of what to do if your dog is overheated or has a reaction to a bug bite. For a complete list of topics to be covered, please visit Healthy Pets NH. This class combines lecture, demonstration and hands on skills practice.
The cost is $65 and includes a workbook and pet CPR certification that is good for two years. Proceeds from the class will benefit the NHSPCA. The class will take place at NHSPCA (104 Portsmouth Ave., Stratham, NH). Please do not bring your pets. For more information on this lifesaving class and to register, visit NHSPCA.org. Space is limited. Advance registration is required.
