Dinner Time Confusion Continues

It happened again. I was happily conversing with my stuffed animal friends, when Mom surprised me by announcing my dinner was served. Just when I thought I was somewhat getting a grasp on when to alert it was time for dinner, they changed the rules, or at least the clocks on me! Angel Chuck Billy would be so disappointed that I was caught unprepared. My stuffie squirrel friend told me that experts recommend if you want to remember something, sing it to a familiar tune. Therefore today I’m experimenting with a few new parodies to remind me when it is dinnertime.

First up, there’s the 2007 Bon Jovi song, “Summertime,” from the album Lost Highway. Only I’d call my version, Suppertime!

Feels something like suppertime
Bowl down, it’s nothin’ but mine
No time for playin’, it’s my feeding time
Feels something like suppertime!

These days no rules exist
No clocks to help the assist
Gotta see a little kibble in my dish
Than my face reflecting in it

I keep a vague plan in the back of my mind
Will eat, sometime
And plenty of treats in the meantime
It’s keeping me from speakin’ up
Barking like I don’t have enough

My tummy feels something like suppertime
Bowl down, it’s nothin’ but time
No time for playin’, it’s my feeding time
Feels something like suppertime

I like my slow feeder bowl, as my dish
There ain’t nothin’ puppy better to lick
I take my thyroid pill, and I don’t even whine
It feels something like suppertime
Sup, sup, suppertime!

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! What rock star sings about thyroid pills? That’s way too specific. I need something more generic, yet gets the message out. Perhaps Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” would make a good earworm reminder?

Pour some kibble for me
Ooh, in my dinner bowl
Pour some kibble for me
C’mon, feed me now
Pour some kibble for me
I can’t get enough!

Nope! Way too demanding! That’s not my style. Although I parodied Roxette’s “Listen to Your Heart” recently, it may be a good reminder with these new lyrics?

Listen to your tummy
When its growling at you
Listen to your tummy
There’s nothing else you should do
I don’t know what time it is
And I don’t care why
But listen to your tummy
Before you bark dinnertime

And there are dogs that bark to be heard
Two hours before dinner, but that is absurd!
The scent of kibble, when they open the bin
Smells even better than I imagine

Listen to your tummy
When its growling at you
Listen to your tummy
There’s nothing else you should do
I don’t know what time it is
And I don’t care why
But listen to your tummy
Before you bark dinnertime!

Oh who am I fooling? None of these songs will help me. I’m just going to wait for dinner backstage under the kitchen table and work on more lyrics. Luckily, Mom and Dad have a better grasp on dinner time than I do.
