Farewell to the Winter that Wasn’t

Today at exactly 11:06 PM EDT the 2024 spring equinox will occur. Mother Nature, that means you still have almost an entire day left to fill our order for snow. Just imagine the smiles on everyone’s faces, including our big goofy Golden grins, if you send us a surprise snowstorm today! You’d be the hero of winter! You don’t want 2024 to go down in history known as “the winter that wasn’t.”

Alas, our last significant snowfall was in early January, and February 2024 is the second least snowy month on record in Maine. Meteorologists are holding out hope that a “potential” storm on the long range forecast for Saturday could turn into snow. However, not to be too nit picky, that’s too little too late, because after today any snow will technically be spring snow. Besides, due to our current snow drought, there’s no way you can muster up during these last few hours of winter the average of 60 inches of snow in southern and Down East Maine, and the more than 100 inches usually blanketing the ground in the northern region of our state. We don’t even have a patch of snow in many parts of Maine!

I guess this leaves Asa and myself no choice but to bid farewell to the winter that wasn’t. However, we’ll leave you with this video from 2015, as a reminder of what winter next year could look like! Please plan accordingly!

PS: I bet you’re surprised to see that I’m a multilinguist in this video.  All dogs naturally speak many languages.  How else do you think we know what humans telling us?
