After getting the right medical bag the first thing I did was fill it with basic medical supplies. These are mainly for me but some may be used on my dogs if necessary. The amount of each to have all depends on where you plan to go. If you will always be a short ride away from a pharmacy then all you really need is enough to handle one incident because chances are you will be able to return home, or to your vet, for further care. For my situations that may not always be the case, so I like to have enough supplies to last multiple applications.
Here is a list of recommended supplies for your medical bag:
- Water Resistant Bandages – you know, the expensive kind
- Closures strips
- Sterile dressing pads
- Sterile dressing
- Gauze roll
- Adhesive tape
- Scissors
- Tick Remover
- Antiseptic/ Cleansing Wipes
- Antibotic Ointment
- Safety Pins
- Chap Stick
- Asprin
