From one big brother to another, welcome Liam to this exclusive club! Now I know what you’re thinking, “How can a dog and a little boy both be members of the same big brother club?” Well you’ll be surprised to know that whether your younger sibling has two legs or four, we both have the same responsibilities towards them.
Oh sure at the moment I admit that your role as a big brother isn’t as rewarding as you thought it would be. Right now your baby sister is a lot like Asa was when he first came home. They both have gross bathroom habits, and refuse to sleep through the night! Luckily though that’s your Mom and Dad’s problem to deal with, not yours. Sadly, babies and puppies are needy little creatures, that demand your parents’ complete attention. In fact, your little sister will steal your spotlight wherever you go for the next few months. Annoying, right? And if you simply push her out of the way like I did with Asa, I can guarantee you’ll get into a lot of trouble. So please be better than me, and resist that temptation. Also worst yet when her baby teeth grow in she may decide to try them out on you! Would you believe Asa used me as a chew toy? But relax, it does get better!
As your baby sister grows, she will idolize you, and watch your every move. She may even try to imitate you! Therefore, it is your responsibility to teach her everything you know. Also it is important as a big brother to share with her what you’ve learned about your parents’ weak points. This way together you can work as a team to outsmart them to get what you want! Asa and I do that every day. However, if your plan doesn’t work out, as big brother you have the right to blame her for any time you get caught misbehaving. But use that power wisely. Because remember you two are a team, and as the years roll by you will grow to be the best of friends who will always have each other’s back.
So enjoy your new role as a big brother! Not everyone can have the honor of being a member of this exclusive club. It is a special privilege to be cherished. Oh and please give your Mom, who is our Mom’s cousin, a big hug, and we can’t wait to meet your new baby sister!
