Well it was no secret that Angel Chuck Billy wasn’t a fan of dressing up in costumes. He even went as far to write his own parody of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven,” to make his point. As he so adamantly proclaimed in it, “Tell me why I must endure this melancholy burden once more, of Halloween Costumes — ‘Nevermore!’” Yet, when going through the old photos, I couldn’t help but notice that Chuck Billy actually liked quite a few of them. In fact, one could argue he did like dressing up!
Take for example when as a puppy for his second Halloween he dressed up as Count Chuckula. Even Chuck Billy admitted in later posts that was one of his favorite costumes.

And look at him smiling in his very first Halloween costume as Chuck BEEly. Ok so so part of the fun here, was Angel Lemmy was afraid of bees…and costumes!

Sure a few years later that same costume turned into “Attack of the Killer Chuck BEEly!” But I really can’t fault him for being upset that he had to repeat a costume, while I got a new fuzzy caterpillar one. In my defense though, that costume barely fit me as a puppy, so it never would have fit Chuck Billy.

As time went on, we got a lot better at picking out costumes that he really quite enjoyed. Oh the fun Angel Chuck Billy had racing around the yard as Rocket Dog!

Chuck Billy loved that costume so much, he insisted that he wear it again the following year while posing with his spaceship that we built. He didn’t even mind that it was powered by balloons, so not up to code.

I admit there were some not-so-good costumes along the way. These flamingos weren’t exactly great, especially when we walked and they would awkwardly swing to under our bellies. That did cause a lot of laughter on neighborhood patrol! That was in 2020, and nothing went as planned that year. We sure all needed that laugh!

It was also rude of me to just get one lobster costume. But costumes are expensive! Besides, Chuck Billy enjoyed being the fisherman, even though he repeatedly pointed out that lobstermen don’t use kayaks or a fishing pole.

At least I did offer to share the costume with him. But he said posing with a bee was even more ridiculous. That comment really stung!

It was years before I could find another lobster costume in our size, so we could finally be twin lobsters! Chuck Billy really enjoyed that. Don’t let his serious expression fool you. He wasn’t “trapped” into posing!

However, it was his final Halloween that Angel Chuck Billy genuinely enjoyed his costume. He dressed up as his mentor Giorgio Tsoukalos, from the television series, Ancient Aliens.

Angel Chuck Billy, thanks for putting up with all my costume ideas over the years. Halloween just isn’t as fun without you grumbling in protest, while secretly enjoying our silliness. But rest assured, my tradition of dressing up will continue tomorrow when I reveal my Halloween costume for this year!
