A year ago I heard rumors about a place where Golden Retrievers of all ages could run and play at an event dedicated to them. I thought for sure it was an urban legend. Something parents tell their dogs to make them behave. As time progressed I was confident it was only a dream. How could such a wonderful place exist? But I wasn’t dreaming! On May 21, 2016 Golden Retrievers from throughout New England and beyond came to party at the Second Annual New England Golden Jubilee!
Held at Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, the New England Golden Jubilee was a day long celebration of Golden Retrievers. According to their website, “The mere presence of a Golden Retriever, their soft fur, wide smiles and soulful eyes, helps to enrich our lives. The New England Golden Jubilee is about helping to enrich the lives of these beloved beings. We’ll celebrate their very presence and indulge their playful spirits with pure Golden Fun! …Through this event and all Golden Jubilees, everywhere, we will promote and help sustain support for the Morris Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. The results of the study will help our Goldens and all dogs live a longer, healthier life. It’s our mission, and it comes at no cost.” Finally, an event organized by people who truly understand and appreciate what it means to be a Golden Retriever!
The day was filled with hikes, games, swimming, blessing of the animals, doggie dancing…and endless games of fetch! And to think I missed it!!! But I’m happy to say that Asa’s biological Dad, Spencer, was there! Along with members of our extended Golden family on our Dads’ side. You can see photos of all the day’s festivities, on the New England Golden Jubilee’s Facebook page.
Adding insult to injury, my human Grandma spent that weekend in Vermont! Surely she could have given us a ride to this Golden Paradise on Earth! Grandma claims she would have taken us had she known about it. That’s it! I’m firing Mom as our activities director. Mark my word, I am going to Dog Mountain! In the meantime, Asa and I are going to make Mom and Dad feel horribly guilty that they didn’t take us to this year’s New England Golden Jubilee!
