Goofing Off on the Job

Asa here. While Chuck Billy took Dad to his Canine Good Citizen Class, I was given the responsibility of taking care of Mom all by myself. Can you keep a secret? I may have temporarily lost track of her. But it all ended ok, and neither Mom nor Chuck Billy are none the wiser to my little mix up!

Wanting to lend a helping paw, as soon as Chuck Billy and Dad left I began cleaning the kitchen floor. Dad spilled a bit while preparing dinner, so I got to work licking the floor making everything neat and tidy. Pleased with the success of that chore, and not seeing anything else that needed my immediate attention, I decided to let loose and play. After all, as the saying goes all work and no play makes Asa a dull dog, and lately I’ve been working really hard!

So I grabbed Dad’s Croc, and began dancing around the kitchen with it. Around and around the room I went with Dad’s shoe rising and falling in the air, while I twirled, leaped, and wiggled. It was when I was wrapping the patio door’s curtain around me as a costume that I just happened to glance into the living room, and realized I was being watched.

Mom wasn’t upstairs sleeping like I assumed. She was laying on the couch watching me! Not wanting her to think I was goofing off on the job, I immediately marched over to her and proudly put Dad’s Croc on the couch with her, while flashing my most authoritative grin. With a flick of the tail, I then returned to the kitchen with an air of confidence, and brought back another shoe from the mudroom for Mom. Back and forth I went, piling up the shoes, boots, and sneakers around Mom, while she smiled at me. I totally fooled Mom into thinking I was organizing the footwear for spring!

I wonder just how much of my dance Mom saw?
