It has been awhile since we’ve shared an update on Asa’s eye. We are not schedule to see his ophthalmologist until September, but we do have good news to share based on personal observations. Asa’s eye appears to be doing very well!
Mom accidentally misplaced our orange ball, and reluctantly she took our green one out to play fetch. Her concern was that it would be difficult for Asa to see with his diminished vision in his eye, especially in contrast to the green grass. But one toss of the ball, and Asa proved otherwise! He was tracking the ball just fine and retrieving it like a pro! Also when the light catches Asa’s eye just right, we are finding it harder to see the clot that was blocking Asa’s view. So we believe…hope…that the clot continues to get smaller.
Therefore our plan is to stay the course, and continue to follow doctor’s orders by maintaining his eyedrops routine. Sure that means this year on Asa’s World Tour of Maine we have to occasionally pause the action to administer his drops along the trail. And it does limit Mom and Dad’s plans that they must make sure Asa is with them to give the drops on time, day and night. Although we see that as a good thing, because it means more family time! Also Asa must continue to wear his goggles to protect the eye in certain situations, even if he gets a bit fussy. Although the fussy part is the humans’ fault. The lenses get scratched easily, and they really need to order a new lens insert, which Mom will do today. Overall though a few slight inconveniences are all worth it to know that Asa can enjoy another summer seeing and doing what he loves!
