Hacker’s Hill Preserve in Casco, Maine is a dog friendly place to relax and enjoy the view. Originally known as Quaker’s Ridge, this 27 acre park offers a 360º view of the White Mountains of Maine and New Hampshire, including Mount Washington; the lakes region, especially Maine’s deepest lake, Sebago; as well as the picturesque rolling countryside. In the 1950s, Hacker Hall, the fourth generation to call this area home, cleared the trees from this hilltop, creating meadowland habitat, with the purpose of letting the public enjoy the view. Today Hacker’s Hill Preserve is maintained by the Loon Echo Land Trust.
Dogs are allowed on-leash, and must be cleaned up after at this carry out park. Also do not allow dogs to disturb the wildlife that call this park home. Please also be respectful of the religious services that take place at Hacker’s Hill. Located on Quaker Ridge Road, the park is open from May to October, weather permitting. Please note the gate is closed during inclement weather, but visitors are welcome to walk up to enjoy the view. Also the park is only open to vehicle traffic on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with days subject to change. Please visit Loon Echo Land Trust for more information to plan your visit.
On the day we visited, it didn’t rain! But it was overcast, so our photos don’t do justice to the beautiful views from this park. However, it is the perfect spot to have a picnic, take a stroll on the short trail mowed into the meadows, while enjoying this beautiful hilltop in Maine’s lake region.
Chuck Billy: Asa why are you slouching?
Asa: I didn’t want my head to block the view of the mountains. You always accuse me of having my head in the clouds!
Chuck Billy: Join us next week for the fifth stop on Asa’s World Tour of Maine!
