Halloween Events for Dogs 2018

Get your dog’s costume ready for all the fun.  Check out these great dog friendly Halloween events where your pups can show off their Halloween costumes for a good cause!  For more information, please click on the highlighted name.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2018

Barktoberfest: For the pups there will be a “Hairy Halloween” contest, bobbing for balls, training demos, and Autumn photo booth.  For the adults there will be FREE local craft brew from the Hoppy Hound Tent and food provided by Nonesuch River Brewing Company, bonfire and music on-site from Coast 93.1.  Hosted by Mutty Paws Academy and Nonesuch River Brewing, proceeds from this rain or shine indoor/outdoor event, benefits the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (ARLGP).

Location: Mutty Paws Academy (411 Payne Road, Scarborough, ME)

Time: October 27, 12 Noon to 2:00 PM

Admission: $20 in advance by calling (207) 210-6592 or stopping by Mutty Paws Academy.  $25 day of the event.  Tickets include a coupon for 10% off future services at both Nonesuch River Brewing and Mutty Paws Academy. Proceeds to benefit ARLGP.

Halloween Barktacular: For the pups there will be a costume contest, group walk scavenger hunt, doggie games, CGC certification and agility demos.  As well as “your dog can paint,” dog massages, and trick or treating for kids and pets.  For the humans there will be haunted hayrides and pony rides, Halloween themed carnival games, live music, indoor RC racetrack, crafts, vendors, and food.  This indoor/outdoor event is hosted by 4H Camp Marshall, and proceeds benefit Second Chance Animal Services.

Canine Promenade: For the pups there will be a 1/2 mile Halloween costume parade around the Esplanade to benefit the park, highlight the Esplanade as a resource for dog owners, and celebrate the fall season.  In addition to the costume parade, there will be a variety of games, demos, and giveaways for attendees to enjoy, as well as goodie bags for all paid attendees.  For the humans there will be pet related vendors and services.

Location: Fiedler Field on the Esplanade (Boston, MA)

Time: October 27, 12 Noon to 2:00 PM

Admission: FREE for spectators. $20 for dogs to participate in costume contest and receive goodie bag.  Proceeds to benefit improvements to this dog friendly park.

Annual Halloween Parade: Costume contest with prizes begins at 10:00 AM with categories for kids, families and pets.  Parade steps off at 10:30 AM.  Followed by Trick or Treating in the downtown and pumpkin carving contest.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2018

Mutt-ster Mash: For the pups there will be bobbing for apples, a haunted agility course, and a costume competition. My Dogs Mind will be there to wow the crowds with tricks, and there will be plenty of treats for humans and dogs alike.  There will be gift cards and prizes as well!  For the humans there will be delicious beers with of $1 of each beer sold to benefit the Cocheco Valley Humane Society (CVHS).

Location: Smuttynose Brewing Company (105 Towle Farm Road, Hampton, NH)

Time: October 28, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Admission: FREE with proceeds from beer sales to benefit CVHS.

Dog-O-Ween: For the pups there will be costume contests featuring four prize winning categories: spookiest, funniest, punniest, and most creative. Your pooch will enjoy fun prizes, a red carpet runway, and some very special judges.  For the adults, $1 from the sale of every beer and food item will be donated to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

Time: October 28, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Admission: $5 entry fee for each dog, with proceeds to benefit ARLGP.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2018

Halloween Hike on the Trails: For the pups there will be agility, tricks training, and weather permitting a group pack walk on the Animal Welfare Society’s trails.  This is NOT a haunted walk, but costumes are encouraged.

Location: Animal Welfare Society (46 Holland Road, West Kennebunk, ME)

Time: October 29, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Admission: $20 or FREE if you or your dog (or both!) come in costume.  Proceeds to benefit the Animal Welfare Society.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2018

Trick Or Treat at ARLGP: For the kids there will be crafts and activities, animal meet-and-greet, shelter trick-or-treating and more.  Designed for children ages 3-11.  Please leave your pups at home, and come brighten the Halloween of shelter animals.

Location: Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (217 Landing Road, Westbrook, ME)

Time: October 31, 5:30PM to 7:30 PM

Admission: NO Pets. $10 per child.  Space is limited. Reserve your spot at www.arlgp.org/halloween.  Proceeds to benefit Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

Kids Paloween: For the kids there will be trick or treating, lessons on Halloween pet safety, and making special dog treats.  Kids will have a chance to trick or treat and deliver the freshly made treats to the animals at the shelter. Costumes are encouraged as we will parade from the Boston House Humane Ed classroom to the AWS Adoption Center. Please leave your pet at home, and come brighten the day of shelter animals.

Admission: NO Pets. FREE. Donations to the shelter are welcome.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25 – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2018

Haunted Overload: For adults and kids, Haunted Overload takes place at DeMeritt Hill Farm October 25-31.  There are day haunts which are child-friendly and family focused so everyone can enjoy the haunt, as well as fright nights which are extra scary! This is a NO Pets event, but 10% of the proceeds support the Cochecho Valley Humane Society.  Last year they raised over $30,000 to help the animal shelter!

Location: DeMeritt Hill Farm (66 Lee Road, Lee NH)

Time: Times vary.

Admission: NO Pets. Day haunt $6.  Night $12.50 to $26, depending on tour. Advance reservations recommended. Proceeds to benefit the Cocheco Humane Society.
