The Animal Welfare Society is celebrating their 50th birthday, and they are inviting everyone to the party! This Saturday, May 20, 2017 AWS is hosting a Carnival as a thank you for everyone who has helped them over the past 50 years, and to celebrate the next 50 years of caring for animals in need! There will be carnival games, bounce houses, giant inflatables, carnival foods, obstacle courses, demonstrations, music, dancing and so much more! Best yet, the carnival is FREE for everyone to attend!
The carnival will be taking place from Noon to 4:00 PM on the grounds of the shelter at 46 Holland Road, Kennebunk, Maine. Please note, this is a humans only event, and they ask that you leave your pets at home. However, they do encourage you to bring photos of your Animal Welfare Society alumni to hang on their “50 Years of Happy Homes” wall!
Since the Animal Welfare Society’s humble beginnings in 1967 in the home of Eldora Boston, volunteers have worked tirelessly helping 150,000 animals in need during the past 50 years! In fact, just in 2016 alone, volunteers amassed more than 23,515 hours of service to AWS and the animals in their care. The Animal Welfare Society is an open-admission No Kill shelter serving York County, Maine. AWS operates an animal shelter and adoption center in West Kennebunk and offers life saving community programs including Pets and Women to Safety, Paws in Stripes, Paws Across America, Humane Education, Behavior and Training classes and an in-house veterinary clinic. AWS serves as the animal control impound facility for 21 municipalities in York County. AWS is also home to the Cleo Fund providing spay/neuter assistance to individuals and feral cat colony advocates statewide.
