While Chuck Billy and Asa anticipate finding extra treats in their bowl this holiday season, not all dogs are so fortunate. With temperatures plummeting and snow piling up, this is shaping up to be an expensive winter forcing some families to choose between paying bills and buying pet food. In Maine, pet families are fortune to have No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry to turn to for help. We’d like to tell you about the amazing work Nadine Molloy is doing to help pet families in need at No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry, and how you can lend a helping paw this December.
Founded in 2015, Nadine has gone above and beyond to help her clients’ dogs and cats get the food and supplies they need to keep their fur families together. As Nadine explained to me in a 2016 interview, while operating a rescue for cats she found that many families “were surrendering their much loved pet because they were experiencing financial difficulties and could not afford to feed them. Surrendering a beloved pet is very hard on both the humans and the pets. Pets are not just pets, they are family members, companions and emotional support. No one should be forced to surrender their pet because they are unable to afford pet food.” Nadine knew there had to be a way she could do something to keep pets and families together. That’s when she closed her rescue, cleared out her garage, raided her savings account, and stocked her shelves with dog food, cat food, and kitty litter. A couple of relocations, and many hurdles later including serious health scares for both her and her beloved rescue pup Nika, thanks to Nadine’s awe inspiring selflessness, No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry is even bigger and better, helping Maine families in need.
