Hive’s Gonna Swarm Today

For anyone concerned that we would miss the opportunity to share one of Asa’s parodies in honor of Bon Jovi’s 40th anniversary and the release of their documentary, “Thank You, Goodnight,” fear not! Just like Jon, we also went into our archives to revisit timeless classics. And what better parody to look back on than one inspired by the song that started it all for Bon Jovi, “Runaway.” Except Asa wrote his parody to sum up my lengthy explanation on why Honey Bees swarm. So puff up your hair, raise those lighters, and buzz along to Hive’s Gonna Swarm Today!

In the hives where they live
Bees talk about their social lives
They’re made of pollen, nectar, and combs
And ruled by a Queen inside

All their life all they asked
When’s the Queen gonna talk to them?
But she was living in a crowded hive
Trying to get her message through

No one heard a single buzz she said
They couldn’t see her in her hive
What was buzzing round her head

Ooh, the hive’s gonna swarm today
Bees are expanding fast
They knew they couldn’t stay
Ooh, the hive’s gonna swarm today!

A different hive somewhere near
Is guaranteed to give more room
I see Bees out in the woods
Searching for a bigger place
Now the Queen waits inside
‘Cause there’s nothing left that she can do
There’s only Nurse Bees left in the hive
There to look after her

You know that the Bees like fields
And flowers on the quiet side
The Queen don’t really mind
It’s a new hive she hopes they find

Ooh, the hive’s gonna swarm today
Bees are expanding fast
They knew they couldn’t stay
Ooh, the hive’s gonna swarm today!

No one heard a single buzz she said
They couldn’t see her in her hive
What was buzzing round her head

Ooh, the hive’s gonna swarm today
Bees are expanding fast
They knew they couldn’t stay

Ooh, the hive’s gonna swarm today!
The Bees found a new hive
The Queen is heading there to stay

Ooh, the hive’s gonna swarm today!

Where are they now update: Despite all the buzz around this parody in 2018, after collaborating, Queen Bee swarmed and left the band. Asa continues to perform as a solo act.
