Honoring the Memory of a Beloved Pet

The Holidays can be difficult for those grieving the loss of a beloved dog, cat, or other pet. Whether your loved one crossed Rainbow Bridge this year, or years ago, we understand that the Holidays can be a droopy tail time without them. The following are a few ideas on how you can honor the memory of your pet, or show a friend or family member that you care, while also helping other animals.

Sponsor: It may not the right time to welcome a new pet into your life, but you can help one looking for a forever home by supporting a local animal shelter. From a one time donation, monthly contributions, to sponsoring an enclosure/ kennel, or purchasing items from a wish list, there are many ways you can honor the memory of a cherished pet while helping other animals on their journey to a forever home.

Lasting Legacy: Did the beloved dog have a favorite hiking trail or park? Consider making a donation in their memory to conservation organization that maintains it, so future pups can enjoy those trails. Also becoming members or volunteering is another way to honor a pup’s legacy who loved those trails. Volunteering can range from trail maintenance to serving on a committee or outreach program. Contact your local conservation group to find out more.

Healthy Future for All Animals: A donation to the Morris Animal Foundation is another way to honor their memory, while helping all animals have a healthier future. Their Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is in its 10th year and is making critical progress in canine health research. Dogs are not the only animals that the Morris Animal Foundation is working to make a brighter future. They also support research for other animals including cats, horses, and wildlife. Now through December 31, 2022, the Board of Trustees are matching all donations up to $200,000! Your contribution in memory of a beloved pet will make twice the impact to improve the lives of animals everywhere. If you are donating in memory of a friend or family member’s pet, you can also send a personalized card letting them know that a donation was made to the Morris Animal Foundation in memory of their pet, or have that pet’s name added to their digital Memorial Wall at their Foundation’s Denver headquarters. There is also the opportunity to create a free memorial on MorrisAnimalFoundation.org.

If you are grieving the loss of a pet, we hope these ideas in some small way bring you comfort during the Holidays.
