Located in the heart of Kennebunkport, Maine, Hope Woods is a dog friendly, hidden treasure that feels like a world away. Consisting of 72 acres and located behind Hope Cemetery, the well maintained and marked trails are an easy, tranquil 2 mile hike, through forest, fields, and wetlands.
On the day we visited we followed the entire main trail, then headed back by way of the blue, orange and yellow marked trails, until we reached the cemetery. Then completed our visit by admiring the stones and mausoleums at the Frederick Law Olmstead inspired park-like Hope Cemetery, with it’s over 200 years of history of the who’s who of Kennebunkport. Popular with joggers, bikers and dog walkers, Hope Woods is a tranquil oasis just steps away from the busy downtown area.
Dogs are allowed on the Hope Woods trails off-leash, under voice command. Dogs must be on-leash when exploring Hope Cemetery. There are several access points for the trails, but not all have parking available. We reached the trailhead by way of the access road at the far end of the cemetery where there is a dirt lot for parking. Signs are located at the trail entrances.
