Lately we’ve had two types of weather here in Maine: hot and humid, or cold and rainy. Although there are some who enjoy the heat and hate the rain, Asa has the opposite perspective. He embraces the rain and enjoys every refreshing minute playing in it. So today we debut his tribute to rainy summer days with his parody of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City.”
Hot dog, summer in the city
Back of my paws feeling dirty and gritty
Oh look! A squirrel and a kitty!
It’s too hot to play, isn’t it a pity?
All around, the flowers wilting half dead
Walking early morning, wishing I was in bed
But then when it starts to rain
No dog would dare to complain
Come on, come on and splash away
Despite the heat it’ll be okay!
And pups, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the rain can’t be here everyday
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
Cool dogs, listen to my ditty
Playing in the mud and looking so pretty
Cooled off, feeling really giddy
Gonna splash in every puddle in the city
‘Til I’m wet soaking like a damp mop
Running all around, getting muddy that I can’t stop
But in the heat it’s a different world
Go out and my fur curls
Come on, come on and cool things down
Bring on the rain so I can be a clown
And pups, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the rain can’t be here everyday
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
Hot dog, summer in the city
Back of my paws feeling dirty and gritty
Oh look! A squirrel and a kitty
It’s too hot to play, isn’t it a pity?
All around, the flowers wilting half dead
Walking early morning, wishing I was in bed
But then when it starts to rain
No dog would dare to complain
Come on, come on and splash away
Despite the heat it’ll be okay!
And pups, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the rain can’t be here to stay
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
