I Will Walk 3,000 Miles

I will walk 3,000 miles…No seriously, I will!  At least according to Dad’s math I will.  While on a neighborhood walk the other day the sole of Dad’s sneaker completely came off. We were of course at the farthest point away from our home when it happened.  Oh and I should mention it was raining too.  As we headed home slowed down by Dad’s awkward gait, he started trying to calculate exactly how many miles we walk in a year.  He factored in the distance covered on our two walks a day, estimated the miles on our weekend adventures, and subtracted severe weather days like nor’easters and heat waves as well as the occasional lazy or busy day.  By the time we arrived home, Dad was convinced that we walk approximately 3,000 miles together each year.  WOW!  That’s almost like walking from Maine to California!  This dog is really going places…the same places day in and day out…but it’s neat to imagine I walked at least to Texas, with perhaps a few tangents to chase Squirrels along the way!

By the way, if anyone can recommend a durable sneaker, that would be really appreciated.  Dad goes through a lot of pairs each year, but never has one failed in such a grand fashion as his sneaker on our walk this week!

“But I will walk 3,000 miles, and I will walk 3,000 more… Da lat da (Da lat da), da lat da (Da lat da) Da-da-da dun-diddle un-diddle un-diddle, uh da-da Da lat da (Da lat da), da lat da (Da lat da) Da-da-da dun-diddle un-diddle un-diddle uh da-da” [Our apologies to The Proclaimers for changing your song, but your lyrics of 500 miles didn’t walk far enough!]
