Imperfect Day, Perfect Memory

We’re taking a stroll down memory lane today to make Mom smile.  If Mom had a tail it would be droopy, because she’s missing her Dad, our Grandpa.  So I thought I’d make her smile by reminding her of how Asa almost ruined our final Father’s Day spent with Grandpa, but instead made it a wonderful memory we’ll never forget.  Hope this post makes you smile too.

3.5 Seconds (June 20, 2016)

Mom tries, she really does.  But she forgets who she is dealing with sometimes.  Saturday afternoon Mom decided to get us all fluffy and good looking for our Father’s Day celebration with Grandpa on Sunday.  She even splurged and bought the special lavender and mint dog shampoo that Grandma says makes us extra fluffy.  She scrubbed away the sand from our morning beach romp, clipped our nails, trimmed our paws, and brushed and brushed and brushed our fur.  After what seemed like a lovely day of pampering to me, and endless torture to Asa, Mom finally declared we were ready for the party.

But as usual Asa had other plans.  With temperatures in the 80s, Mom didn’t dry us completely after our baths because she thought we’d be cooler if we air dried.  Well what took her hours to do, Asa undid in 3.5 seconds.  Upon being released from grooming, Asa ran straight out the backdoor and rolled in dirt.  Dirt that turned to mud on his damp fur!  He came trotting back looking so proud of himself.  Did Mom get angry?  Did Asa get another bath?  Nope!  Mom simply gave him a big hug, and thanked him for reminding her that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful.

Looking back, that Father’s Day was absolutely perfect, even with Asa a stinky, dirty mess.  In fact, I still remember how Grandpa laughed when he heard the story of how he got that way!  As for today, my plan worked.  Mom is smiling again thinking of that Father’s Day five years ago.

This photo does not do justice showing how muddy Asa got, but you get the idea.
