Jagolinzer Preserve, Limington, Maine

Today I’m taking you on a leisurely walk in the woods at Jagolinzer Preserve in Limington, Maine. This 20 acre preserve has an approximately half-mile loop track that takes you through dense forest, along Pease Brook, past the remains of an old dam, over wetlands, with tiered waterfalls, and a rocky beach to wet the paws in the Saco River.

Access to the trail is granted through a 500 foot long right of way. Please be respectful of the private properties that abut this preserve, named for Dr. Philip Jagolinzer, who generously donated an easement to preserve the natural character of the area.

Once you reach the preserve, just follow the turtle trail markers. There you will find a trail that is easy on the paws, that goes from a wide dirt path, to some rocky and steep areas.

It leads to a small rocky beach area on the Saco River that is popular with swimmers and dog walkers.

From there continue on the path on the banks of Pease Brook, and you will reach an area with tiered waterfalls.

According to the Francis Small Heritage Trust, which maintains the property, this hike takes about 45 minutes. However, we took our cue from the trail signs, and moved at a turtle’s pace enjoying all that this hike had to offer.

Dogs are allowed at Jagolinzer Preserve. However, they must be on-leash when using the right of way to reach the preserve, and under voice control if off-leash on the trail. Please clean up after your pet, and be respectful of the neighboring properties, wildlife who call it home, and fellow visitors. Parking is available along the road at Olive’s Way in Limington. For more information, please visit the Francis Small Heritage Trust.
