I’m happy to report that both Asa and I resisted the trap Dad left for us in the living room. In case you forgot or haven’t read it yet, in the post Lead Us Not Into Temptation Dad made the most intriguing toy ever, but expected us to leave it alone! He put sticks in a plastic bottle and left them by the pellet stove for warmth claiming they would eventually grow into trees. Well believe it or not Dad claims his little science experiment worked! These seemingly dead sticks have all grown roots and even started sprouting leaves. Clearly Dad is easily impressed because they still look like sticks to me.
But now once again he is asking us to use every bit of our self-control and not play with these sticks in the yard. For you see, he and Mom spent last weekend planting them. Now don’t get me wrong, I love that he wants to propagate Lemmy’s Dwarf Apple Tree, but how are we suppose to tell the difference between sticks and his so-called trees? Heck some of the branches I bring home on my walk are massive compared to these twig trees. This is especially problematic because on warm summer afternoons I like to settle in and chew on a stick. Clearly Dad needs to stop putting temptation in our path! Luckily these “trees” have been planted outside our play area, so paws crossed I can keep an eye on Asa and together we can resist the urge to chew on them. But I fear I will be a very old dog by the time they are big enough to really call trees. I suppose patience is a virtue.
