Listen to Your Toy, It’s Squeaking to You

For many dogs, Valentine’s Day is a day of love and loss. Humans give us these wonderful squeaky toys, only to have them tragically go silent before the day is done. The following song parody is dedicated to all dogs starting a relationship with a new toy today. I first wrote it in 2023, but alas my manager, Chuck Billy, thought it was best to shelve this tribute inspired by Roxette’s 1988 hit, “Listen to your Heart.” I guess it stirred too many emotions for him about lost squeakies? Luckily, it was recently rediscovered in the archives for its big debut today!

I know there’s something hidin’ inside this toy.
I can sense it without even openin’ my eyes, yea.
It’s built of fluff, but that fluff falls apart.
This little stuffie friend captured my heart.

Listen to your toy
When it’s squeakin’ for you.
Listen to your toy
Especially when you chew.
I don’t know why it’s squeaking
And I don’t know how,
But listen to your toy
Before it squeaks its goodbye.

Sometimes I wonder what is hiding inside.
The precious squeaker drives my inner wolf wild, yea.
The fluff is scattered ’cause it split at the seams,
This wasn’t the toy I thought of my dreams!

Listen to your toy
When it’s squeakin’ for you.
Listen to your toy
Especially when you chew.
I don’t know why its squeaking
And I don’t know how,
But listen to your toy
Before it squeaks its goodbye!

And there are toys
That cannot be heard.
Too silly to mention
Silent toys are absurd!
Some scent with magic,
But they can’t be ate
It’s as if they were made by mistake!

Listen to your toy
Take a squeak
When it’s squeaking for you
Listen to your toy
Take a squeak
Especially when you chew.
I don’t know why its squeakin’
And I don’t know how,
But listen to your toy
Before it squeaks its goodbye!

Listen to your toy
Take a squeak
When it’s squeaking for you
Listen to your toy
Take a squeak
Especially when you chew.
I don’t know why its squeakin’
And I don’t know how,
But listen to your toy
Before it squeaks its goodbye….

Take a listen to it!

On this Valentine’s Day, I ask the age old question, “Is it better to have squeaked and lost, than never to have squeaked at all?”
