It has been awhile since I’ve had a good challenge, something to keep my mind sharp. Well thanks to Dad losing his white earbuds in the snow, I had such a challenge! We were enjoying a game of fetch when all of a sudden Dad realized he didn’t have his earbuds anymore. He quickly rechecked his pockets, and then grumbled he must have dropped them in the backyard. Immediately I perked up! This is a job for my keen sense of observation, powerful nose, and deductive reasoning skills! Sorry Asa, game over, go play in the snow. I have work to do!
First Dad and I retraced his steps. Luckily there was no sign of them where I relieved himself, nor in the poop bag Dad used to remove it. That’s good, because even if we did find them there, I would have insisted that he throw them out. While Dad continued to walk around the yard, I got to work sniffing. Luckily Asa was making snow angels in the far corner of the yard, so I could focus on the search. After about 15 minutes, I realized the case of the missing earbuds would be a lot more difficult to solve than I initially realized. Determined to find them, I started digging.
It made my tail droop to see Dad so sad, wandering around the yard, defeatedly kicking snow, while carefree Asa made snow angels. It must be nice to be so oblivious to the needs of others. Now that I think of it, Asa didn’t even offer to help! But this was serious work. What could Asa possibly contribute to the search? Finally Dad admitted defeat and said he’d just have to buy new ones. I had to agree. Not because I didn’t think I could find them, but because it was getting near dinner time and I was hungry.
Meanwhile Asa continued to make snow angels in the far corner of the yard. Dad called him to come, but Asa refused. Wow, way to go adding to the stress of the situation. Dad called COME louder. But Asa just stood there looking at Dad then at the ground where he was making the snow angel. Finally Dad went over to see what was the problem. And there they were! Asa had been rolling on top of the earbuds the entire time! Dad must have dropped them when he went to check on our hives. I guess that just goes to show even Asa can occasionally be useful. It was pure luck though that he found them! But I don’t care, I knew I would’ve found them eventually. Besides, it was dinner time and I was hungry!
