Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine is a good dog friendly beach during the off season. From Labor Day through June 15, dogs are allowed all day on Mother’s Beach, off leash as long as they are under voice control and the owner is carrying a leash. However, from June 15 through Labor Day, dogs are only allowed on the beach before 9:00 AM and after 5:00 PM. Dogs are allowed off-leash under voice control before 9:00 AM. After 5:00 PM dogs must be on-leash. NO retractable leashes are allowed.
Although much smaller than nearby Gooch’s Beach, Mother’s Beach offers more opportunity to play in the sand at high tide. Maine’s picturesque rocky cliffs line this beach, leaving plenty of tide pools to explore during the low tide for timid dogs who may not like the ocean’s surf. Mother’s Beach also has a conveniently located playground for children. Parking is limited, and Kennebunk Beach Permits are required from June 15 through September 15 from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Day permits are available, and can be purchased at the Town Hall and at a kiosk located at the beach. Please note that the kiosk only accepts credit cards. Week and season passes are also available for purchase. Because only full day passes are available even though dogs are limited to just few hours, we recommend visiting other Maine Dog Friendly Beaches in the area during the Summer months that are less expensive.
