Dogs, this is our opportunity to create our own dog utopia, where we can be in charge and live our best lives! There is a village for sale in Maine! Tuthill, located approximately 15 minutes outside of Augusta, is a 55-acre complex with 25 buildings, and open spaces to run and play. Created by Kenneth Tuttle starting in 1967, over the decades he purchased, moved and restored 19th and 20th century houses to this property to create his own “antique village.” Today that complex is for sale, and I believe we should team up and purchase it.
There are eight homes on the property, with the oldest being built ca. 1840. Therefore plenty of room for all of our beds, couches, and toys. In addition there are multiple garages that we can convert to living spaces, so that as many dogs as possible can live there in harmony, with perhaps a few well-behaved humans. Speaking of harmony, the barn is plenty big enough that Asa can have his own theater to put on concerts. There is even an office space perfect for me to run my Dog Ufology and detective services. As for the smaller outbuildings, we can use those as indoor play space on those cold winter Maine days or steaming hot summer afternoons. For those who like wearing their Sunday best, there’s also a church! Best yet there are open green spaces for fetch, areas we can designate for those who prefer digging, miles of paved roadway for walks, and based on the photos there appears to be our own private pond on the property! And when we want to seek adventures beyond our doorsteps, we are just a short trip in our self-driving cars from lakes, hiking trails, and the ocean. It’s a dog paradise!
However, paradise does come at a price. The family is selling it for $5.5 Million. But if we all pitch in our treat, squeaky toy, and tennis ball allowances, I’m positive we can swing that price with no problem. Plus with my great negotiating skills as the Mayor of Mutthill, I may even be able to take a bite out of the price. After all, while watching an interview with the current owner I did notice a squirrel run across the lawn. That issue clearly should knock down the price for a serious buyer such as ourselves. Oh and for those a bit reluctant to invest for fear of the paranormal, the owners are adamant that despite the age of the buildings there are no ghosts at Tuthill.
So while Asa and I count our treat money, you just scroll through the photos on Zillow. But let me know as soon as possible if you want to join us in this great investment opportunity into Mutthill: A Dog Utopia!
