It’s been a fun week strolling down memory lane as I countdown to my big 10th birthday celebration on Sunday. While Asa is busy going over the final preparations for my big “surprise” party, I thought I’d remind him how thoughtful Lemmy was when he hosted my first birthday in 2012. As opposed to how thoughtless Asa was when it came to be his first turn to do me the honor in 2015.
As I may have mentioned before, my homecoming wasn’t the best. Lemmy hid upstairs from me for a week. But he eventually came downstairs, and after a few months may have even tolerated me. I think he felt bad for that homecoming and wanted to make up for it by hosting my first birthday party.
I have to say, not only was this my first party, it was the first Lemmy ever hosted. However, he did a great job. He even bought special serving bowls and filled them with all sorts of delicious treats for our guests.
As for guests, he invited my grandparents, aunt, uncle, and his best friend Mr. Octopus, as well as Mr. Octopus’ little friend. Again, I’d like to remind everyone here that I was only 1 years old, and didn’t have a say in the guest list. If it were up to me, I would have invited a few celebrities.
It was at that party that I discovered the BEST gift wasn’t what was inside the wrapping paper, but the wrapping paper itself! I had a grand time shredding all that paper!
Ok, so I may have got a bit obsessed with it, and had to go on a wrapping paper time out during my own party.
All in all it was a wonderful day, and I’m so grateful to have these memories of the party Lemmy hosted for me. Even if I may have “accidentally” turned Lemmy’s little Octopus friend into calamari.
In comparison to Lemmy’s party planning, here’s how the party Asa DIDN’T host for me went. As you know Asa joined our family just a few days prior to my 3rd birthday. Now one would expect him to thank me for welcoming him and his poor bathroom habits into my home, by throwing a big party for me. Instead, would you believe my birthday got delayed THREE MONTHS! Oh sure Mom and Dad tried to cover for him by blaming it on the excessive amount of snow that winter. But clearly Asa was too self-absorbed, and was totally unprepared to throw a party for me.
And when it did eventually happen in March, not only did I have to share the spotlight with my Aunt and Grandfather’s birthdays, Asa stole the show with his puppy antics!
Thank goodness Asa’s hosting skills have improved dramatically since he was a puppy, and he has since that time had some great parties for me. I look forward to what he has planned for me this weekend!
