Asa here. As a hopeless romantic, I begged Chuck Billy to let me write the all important Valentine’s Day message today. However, now that I sit here thinking, I realize I have nothing profoundly romantic to say. Oh don’t get me wrong, I love everyone, and Valentine’s Day ranks as one of my favorite Holidays after Christmas and Halloween (who can resist a good costume, right?). But I just don’t know what my message should be this year.
I first thought I’d write a parody of one of the greatest love songs ever written, namely Heart’s “Listen to Your Heart.”
Listen to my heart
When I’m squeakin’ to you.
Listen to my heart
There’s no more watching the screen.
I don’t know why it’s squeaking
And I don’t know how,
But listen to my heart
Before Dad tells it goodbye…
Which is exactly what happened. As I sat squeaking trying to compose my song, Dad took my toy away! That’s alright though. My song wasn’t very romantic.
Next I turned to the Valentines Mom bought for me to mail for inspiration. To be honest, I really should have purchased them myself, because most of the messages didn’t quite suit my cASAnova reputation. I mean take this one for example, it has a photo of a dog with the caption, “Follow Your Rainbow.” I don’t want anyone I love to follow Rainbow Bridge! I want them to stay here with me! Then I looked at Valentines from the previous years. That reminded me of the year I sent Valentines to all my secret crushes. Turns out in this day and age of social media, this isn’t a good idea. As each Valentine arrived in their mailbox, they shared them online. Who knew they were all friends with each other? Now that I think of it, that’s probably how I gained the reputation of being a Casanova. I sure learned a lesson on love that year.
So today, rather than write some profound declaration of love, I leave you with this simple reminder for Valentine’s Day and every day…
Value every relationship
Always greet with enthusiasm
Love unconditionally
Enjoy simple moments spent together
Never hold grudges
Treat everyone with respect
Insist on more playtime together
Never pass up an opportunity to cuddle
Every day is Valentine’s Day!
Oh and in case you’re wondering about the tuxedo, did I mention that I can’t resist an opportunity to dress up? But I could only afford the rental fee for one, so please excuse me while I change so Chuck Billy can wear it too.
