Mount Agamenticus, York, ME: Consisting of over 10,000 acres and 40 miles of trails, Mount Agamenticus in York, Maine offers endless opportunities for enjoying the fall foliage. On a clear day from the Big A trail at the top of the mountain it is possible to view Mount Washington, Casco Bay, Cape Elizabeth, the Boston skyline, and the Isles of Shoals.
Leash Required.
Parking available at base of mountain, along the road leading to the summit, and at the summit.
Stratham Hill Park, Stratham, NH: If you would like to enjoy mountain top views, but without the strenuous hike of a mountain, we recommend Stratham Hill Park. Follow the trail to the left of the maintenance building to where it cuts off and heads up the hill to the former fire tower and there you can see Mount Kearsarge, Mount Monadnock, Great Bay, and the New Hampshire coastline. Please note dogs are not allowed to climb the tower. But they are allowed on the extensive network of trails.
Leash Required in the open lawn areas, playground and athletic fields. Off-Leash/Voice Control on the wooded trails.
Parking available at large paved lot.
Bauneg Beg Mountain, North Berwick, ME: Off the beaten path, Bauneg Beg Mountain is a tranquil place to hike with your dogs. Used mostly by locals, this conservation area consists of 89 wooded acres of peaceful trails crossed by forgotten stone walls, interesting rock formations including the “Devil’s Den,” and on a clear day there are obstructed views of Mount Washington and the Atlantic Ocean.
Off-Leash/Voice Control.
Parking available at small dirt lot at trailhead.
Highland Farm Preserve, York, ME: Consisting of 151 acres in the York River watershed, Highland Farm Preserve’s trails are of varied terrain that take you through dense forests, past vernal pools, and up to scenic outcroppings perfect for viewing the area’s fall foliage. Please note this area is home to endanger cottontail rabbits and dogs must be leashed.
Leash Required.
Parking available at paved lot.
Dogtown Woods, Gloucester, MA: The trails at Dogtown Woods will not lead you to scenic overlooks for breathtaking views of fall foliage. But if you are looking for an adventure, the Babson Boulder Trail and the remnants of the old homesteads, make for an interesting dog friendly hike, especially when the foliage is less dense. Hidden amongst the trees are large boulders that are carved with inspirational mottoes. We strongly recommend using a trail map available at the trailhead kiosk.

Parking available at small dirt lot.
